Development of a new battery-based electricity storage facility in Gura Ialomitei.
Supporting the integration of renewable energy into the energy system and increasing the flexibility of the electricity grid.
Project description:
The project aimed to develop new battery-based electricity storage capacity in the town of Gura Ialomiței, Ialomița County, with the goal of supporting the integration of renewable energy into the power system and increasing the flexibility of the electricity grid. The investment contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and optimizing the use of energy produced from renewable sources, and is being implemented through the PNRR program—Supporting Investments in the Development of Electricity Storage Capacities (Batteries).
- The main challenge was to demonstrate the project’s financial sustainability in a context where the regulatory framework for the remuneration of flexibility services was still being defined. It was necessary to conduct a cost-benefit analysis based on sound assumptions, justify the choice of location, and align storage capacity with the specific needs of the local grid, which required preparing technical documentation beyond the standard requirements.
