Project description:
The project aimed to develop and introduce to the market an intelligent signage panel based on IoT technologies and next-generation LED displays to ensure energy savings and improve safety in public and private infrastructures. The primary objective was to increase the competitiveness of Rodotex S.R.L. by strengthening research and development capacities in partnership with the Transport Research Institute INCERTRANS SA. The investment was funded through the North-East Regional Programme 2021-2027, under the call dedicated to RDI projects and investments in SMEs.
- The main challenge was the clear and justified demarcation between the research and development activities carried out in partnership with INCERTRANS and the investment in constructing and equipping the production plant, as the European funder treats these two components under different State aid schemes with distinct intensities and thresholds. In practice, it is difficult to argue that production equipment purchased for the factory simultaneously serves to validate research results rather than just commercial production; if this line is not precisely drawn in the funding application—through separate activities, deliverables, and budgets per partner—there is a real risk that part of the expenses may be declared ineligible or reclassified, affecting the entire financial structure of the project.
